As the world’s population increases, so does the demand on Earth’s resources. Meat and fish remain incredibly popular protein sources; in 2022 alone, over 100 million tonnes of farmed fish were produced in East Asia.

Agriculture, cattle farms, and aquaculture all help keep humanity fed, though they come at a cost, each requiring vast amounts of land and water to produce stock.

Being good consumers and stewards of the Earth means thoughtful eating habits and minimising waste. This Ramadan, let’s ask ourselves how we can honour the food on our plates, and the resources that helped to create it. What can we do to help reduce our footprint on this Earth and help all creatures thrive?

This award-winning photograph is from the ninth season, “Water”, of the Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) Archive. The Climate Tribe has partnered with HIPA, leveraging the power of photography to inspire global awareness of sustainability and advance climate action.
